The “Mental Health Literacy in Youth Work” project (Project Number: 2025-3-ES02-KA153-YOU-000367834), coordinated by Asociación VANA, is being implemented in Madrid, Spain, from 4 to 10 April 2026 under the KA153 – Mobility of Youth Workers action of the Erasmus+ Programme. The project aims to strengthen mental health literacy in youth work and promote practices that support the well-being of young people.

During the programme, participants explored practical tools that can help young people facing mental health challenges. Training sessions focused on active listening, effective communication, anxiety-reduction techniques, and appropriate referral processes when professional support is needed. Through role-playing exercises and interactive workshops, participants enhanced their ability to respond to real-life situations that may arise in their daily youth work practice.

A significant part of the activities was dedicated to the importance of self-care and well-being among youth workers themselves. Discussions and workshops addressed topics such as stress management, burnout prevention, and maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Participants reflected on their own professional experiences, identified potential risk factors, and developed personal self-care strategies that can contribute to more sustainable and effective youth work.

Experience-sharing sessions provided an opportunity for participants to discuss challenges they have encountered while working with young people and to exchange successful approaches from their respective countries. Through storytelling, group discussions, and peer-learning activities, participants strengthened their empathy, professional awareness, and understanding of diverse perspectives on mental health support within youth work.

By combining practical learning, international cooperation, and intercultural exchange, the Mental Health Literacy in Youth Work project continues to enhance the competencies of youth workers and promote more inclusive, supportive, and sustainable youth work practices across Europe. The knowledge and methods gained throughout the project are expected to create a positive impact on both participating organizations and the young people they support.
